- Set your goals. What do you want to achieve? It could be buying a motorcycle or saving for home repairs, Experian says.
- Check your income and expenses. How much is your monthly income? Which monthly expenses do you currently have? Make your list and find out how much money you have left each month after deducting your expenses.
- Make a monthly budget and reduce unnecessary expenses. Cut services you no longer need or subscriptions that you pay for but no longer use, such as an unused gym membership or streaming service.
- Look into the interest rate on your credit cards and loans. You may be able to transfer them to a lower, or even a 0% Annual Percentage Rate (APR) card. Consolidating them into one loan may help you pay the balances down quicker.
- Start saving. With the budget that you have created, look into opening a high-interest savings account, and have money regularly transferred into that account directly from your paycheck.
- Establish an emergency fund. Putting money into a savings account to use only in emergencies will help with costs when an emergency pops up.
